Trust me, I was scared at first, too. But that’s exactly how I became an expert – by feeling the fear, and doing it anyway in favor of impact for my audience and profit or my business.

I’ve heard so many entrepreneurs over the years talk about being afraid of the camera. Unless you’re an actor on the side or you were active in your high school drama club, I’m guessing video doesn’t exactly come “naturally” to you… and that’s okay! But that shouldn’t make you afraid to try it.

Camera shyness has always been an interesting concept to me. When you’re filming to camera, you’re not talking to anyone. Just like you’re not singing to anyone in the shower or dancing around for everyone in your kitchen… (oh c’mon, I’m not the only one who does that!)

The scary part is when you decide to use this thing you made with the camera as a tool to build your business. It’s one thing to film a video, but posting it for the world to see and judge thats scary. It feels vulnerable to really put yourself out there and put a megaphone to your ideas, but it’s also really exhilarating and exciting to know you might just impact somebody with this message.

Trust me: you’re going to look back at past videos wondering why you made some choices, or why you filmed at that particular angle, or wore that particular shirt – but that’s how you know you’ve grown.

By the way, it really is a hunk of metal and plastic. If you’re afraid of it, it’s because you’re thinking too far ahead. In the moment of filming, all you should be thinking about is getting your message across on camera. You can take all the time you need, you can script it out, you can give yourself the chance to feel animated and inspired by the topic – do whatever you need to do to get in the moment. If you’re feeling afraid, you need to come back to the present moment and focus on your message.

in spite of your fears, I highly suggest you give video a try. Your first video won’t be your best, I can tell you that for a fact, but then you move on to your 2nd video and that one will be even better. The sooner you start, the sooner you can start driving massive impact for your future clients and profit for your business. But just like anything else in life, it starts with giving it a try.

When it comes to video, the first thing to prepare for is slow growth. Video marketing is not about virality; it’s about long-term, sustainable growth. If your channel doesn’t blow up after a week, a month, 6 months, or a year – that isn’t your concern. Focus on the impact and the engagement you’re making with your existing audience.

When you DO start generating an audience, you’ll likely experience criticism or even hate comments on your videos. But guess what? That’s how you know you’re stirring up thought. In my case, for every criticizing comment I see, there are about 100 positive comments about how my video inspired someone or helped them in some way. You get to choose which of these opinions makes the largest impact on your life… and I choose the positive! Sometimes the critical comments actually help me adapt my content, and sometimes I disregard it altogether. But these are a small price to pay for the amount of impact and profit I’m able to generate as a result of my videos over the past several years.

You’ll be surprised how quickly the camera becomes your friend. I’ve been doing this for years now and video is totally second nature to me now! I can’t imagine going weeks or months without filming anything… and the thing is, I get so much joy out of making videos! I don’t want to stop. The impact and profit that these videos drive for my business are practically added bonuses, on top of the excitement I feel when I get to film a video for my audience.

And trust me, I was scared at first, too. But that’s exactly how I became an expert – by feeling the fear, and doing it anyway in favor of impact for my audience and profit or my business.
