Most people never realize that we create these lies in our lives to play it safe and we get some kind of benefit out of it.

So are you the kind of person that tells yourself:

“I need to be more ready before I start?”

“Once I have more research, it’ll take off.”

“I just need a little more time before I go all in.”

“As soon as I get to this level, I’ll take the next step.”

Do you realize that you’re only using those excuses because you get some kind of benefit out of it? But if you take a moment to think about it, you’ll realize that those benefits are actually a mask to believe that you can stay in your comfort zone. Because it’s easier to say I’ll do this later rather than leap into the unknown.

I get it, it’s scary, that’s why staying in the same place is called a comfort zone. And that’s also why nothing grows there.

It’s always a mistake to think that you can limit yourself and expand at the same time.

A few years ago, I found myself in a situation working with clients that really didn’t serve me. I was miserable, I was working way too much, way too late but wasn’t ready to leave because I didn’t feel like I was ready. I knew I wanted to go this direction but stayed here because it felt safe.

If you wait until you’re ready, you’ll never start. Do you think Steve Jobs waited until he was ready? Do you think Elon Musk? No, and that’s why they’re pioneers. That’s why they’re innovators. They have their trials and failures just like anybody else but they fail forward. They get up, they keep going. When we have the opportunity to step into our calling there’s this little caveman voice that says there’s uncertainty there. And where there’s uncertainty, when you leave your little cave, there may be a monster that will attack you and then you’ll die.

So do you want to play it safe and stay in your little cave and never know any of the outside world? Or are you ready to take the leap and go towards adventure?

It’s better to get comfortable with being uncomfortable because that is where the adventure is. Most people stay in the security of a nine to five job rather than going out and fulfilling their dreams of owning a business.

But let me ask you, how secure is a nine to five job compared to entrepreneurship? What happens as an employee when there are cuts or layoffs? Your security vanishes in an instant. And the unemployment office isn’t very secure either. As an entrepreneur, you have the ability to create more income and opportunity. So let me ask you again, which is safer?

Are you willing to go for it or are you going to keep telling yourself the same lies and be stuck in the same position you’ve been in from the very beginning? Because the only way you’re going to move forward in entrepreneurship is when you stop lying to yourself about who you are and where you’re meant to be.

If you want to step into your calling, create a profound impact on the world, and live in your purpose and for a purpose, I have a Facebook group just for you called Entrepreneur On Purpose. Please come and join us.
