Entrepreneur On Purpose

When’s the last time you felt truly paralyzed by fear? Maybe it was the first time you signed a client for a project that felt bigger than yourself, or when you took to the stage to do a speech in front of hundreds of colleagues. Maybe it was a decision you made that you knew would end a chapter in your life and open a new one.

Most people think that once fear takes hold there’s nothing you can do but succumb to your body’s reaction to the perceived danger. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.

In fact, by believing that lie you give more power to fear, allowing it to control you and relying on its mercy to let you out of its grasp, when in fact you do have a choice. A choice to allow it to fuel your momentum or to paralyze you, consuming any forward movement you may have gained by conquering it.

Anatomically, the moment we first feel fear, a region of our brain called the amygdala lights up, creating a host of bodily changes. These changes are meant to prepare us to fight or flee the danger. Our brain becomes hyper-alert; our pupils dilate, our lungs expand, and our breathing accelerates as our heart rate and blood pressure rises. This is typically the moment we freeze, retreat, and allow impostor syndrome or fear of failure to stop us from growth.

But what if we use these moments to become hyper-vigilant instead, to operate at a higher level than the norm? The trick to using fear as fuel is to feel the fear and do it anyway, at all costs.

Knee knocking, do it anyway.

Hands shaking, do it anyway.

So scared you’re going to vomit? You get cleaned up and you do it anyway!

That’s how you create momentum and that’s how you use fear to shift you forward.

So what’s it going to be for you today?

If you’re not ready to take hold of fear, making it a slave to your movement, and not the other way around, I can’t help you. But if you’re ready to conquer what’s paralyzing you, to operate at a higher level and remain determined to do it anyway, I have a new ebook to help get you started.
