One of the biggest costs small businesses will likely spend on is marketing. But it’s also one of the costs that can easily be controlled. With the right strategy, there are many ways to market your business without spending a dime. Stretching that marketing budget won’t be that hard with these seven cost effective marketing ideas.

Start a blog about your business. By creating and sharing content, you’ll establish your business as the top of mind choice when it comes to your industry. Add a blogging component on your website where you can offer useful tips and insights about things related to your business. The only expense is your time, and your website, which you may already be paying for. Or there are free web hosting services offered by WordPress or Tumblr. By providing information, you’re creating value to your customers that will boost your credibility.

Start a referral program. Offer your loyal customers a free product or some other reward when they bring in new customers. Word of mouth is powerful stuff. Turn those paying customers into brand advocates and that free stuff will be paying for itself in no time.

Start doing email marketing. Email marketing is a great way to get new visitors to come back to your business and maintain relationships with them. Get new visitors to sign up for your weekly newsletter by offering them bonus content pieces from your blog or discount coupons or other free offers. Nurture your email subscribers and they will eventually be paying customers.

Host free local classes and events. By creating free classes and events, you attract existing and would be customers to interact with you and your brand. This allows you to boost brand awareness and drive more traffic. Events have a proven positive effect on relationships and improve your visibility.

Make free content. Using content marketing allows you to increase customer acquisition and generate traffic to your website. These include creating content pieces like eBooks, webinars, podcasts, case studies, infographics, or videos like these. Good content builds a solid fan base that could be your future paying customers.

Enter into awards. Thank you, thank you, I’d like to thank my mom and my dad and all my followers on Facebook and Instagram and Twitter and Pinterest. I’m so grateful, thank you so much for this opportunity. Let everyone know that you’re awesome. Participating in awards enhances your reputation, and gives you great press coverage. This puts you on the map and places your brand into the spotlight. Look for local and international awards where you can submit your case studies and get the word out.

Social media marketing. Lastly, one of the most cost effective ways to market is through social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. This allows you to reach customers in an unprecedented scale with a cheaper cost. They’re easy to set up and your investment will just be time, effort, and a solid internet connection. I mean, of course you can put money into your ad spend by boosting posts and placing ads, but minimally, you could just be spending your time. You don’t need to rob a bank to start marketing your small business. With these ingenious efforts, you’ll be well on your way to getting that sale.

Need guidance? A coach is a great way to achieve your goals and make sure that you’re on track. And of course, if you need help with creating the type of content for your email marketing, for your blogs, for your social media, and all these things that I’ve suggested, check out my free guide, The Ultimate Content Share Worthiness Checklist.
