As you reflect on your entrepreneurial journey and you begin to think about all that has happened, all the minor and the major details of life that came together to get you where you are today, it’s clear that the journey hasn’t been perfect.
But the question I really want to ask you is should the journey be perfect?
Perfectionism is a vicious cycle of strife and self-contempt in which creativity, thought leadership, and true vulnerability dies. How many businesses, products, or inventions were created by way of mistakes? The light bulb and telephone are prime examples of life-changing innovations in contrast to perfectionism. It’s a battle, the idea that if you do A, B, C, and D perfectly, you can reasonably expect E and F to come to fruition.
But how many times have you nearly killed your health, given up your rest, and sacrificed being you without ever receiving the payoff you expected? If you’re like me, and I think most of you are, it’s been too many to count. That needs to stop today.
The negative energy you’re using to focus on perfectionism in your business, yourself, or your life is eating away at the very core of what you’re capable of. You will never achieve all that you were meant to by keeping the focus on external factors.
These factors can be anything from how people perceive you and your message to how clients communicate with you and even spread to the level at which you’re willing to lead your team through true vulnerability.
Instead, you have to embrace the unknown, the imperfections and the wrinkles of life and business.
Envision and be the entrepreneur that finds value in the unexpected, learns to pivot instead of wallowing in self-pity, and leads yourself or your team with vulnerability, flexibility, and freedom. It’s only from that place that you’ll truly thrive, reaching your targets and enjoying the journey.
