What is Your “Success” Costing You?

I’d spend the last hours of perceived freedom worrying about what tomorrow would hold, what fires had started while I was away, what tasks and schedules I’d be stuck with for the next five days.

Yet by all accounts, I was successful.

I was paid well, decent working hours, coworkers that were relatively easy to work with. I had what we are all supposed to strive for: success.

But let me ask you, who defines success?

If we shape the definition into what we’re told it’s meant to be, then issues of guilt while being on vacation, the need to be available 24/7, the inability to sleep wracked with worry and anxiety, and the feeling of fear every morning as you realize it’s another day of grind aren’t accounted for.

There are no factors that take into measurement variables such as quality of life, life’s purpose, impact, and lifelong happiness when calculating success. These are all issues I consistently dealt with.

I’d allow myself to increase the pressure I was under as long as it would also increase my perceived self-worth and income. But for what, at what cost?

The cost of being successful as defined by the hustle mentality in society at large is constantly overwhelmed, mentally depleted, physically exhausted and motivated by fear. Paying for this type of success with your freedom, health, and future is a choice.

To remain broken, frazzled and controlled by your career is a price you choose to pay. Or you choose the road less traveled, the road that’s paved in the blood, sweat, and tears of purpose, momentum, and freedom.

You choose to create a business that fuels your lifestyle, that ignites your purpose and shapes your future.

Is it hard? One of the toughest things you will ever do.

Will you redefine success? Like you wouldn’t believe.
