You may know that I was a dental hygienist before becoming an entrepreneur, but before that, I actually worked in radio. During that time, there was one secret that really stuck with me and has actually transferred over to my career in video marketing.

Hey everybody! This is Marley Jaxx and welcome to the world of video, impact, and profit – or as I like to call it, the VIP Code.

Before we get into today’s podcast episode, this is just a glimpse of the type of content I teach in my 21 Days To Infinite Video Impact Challenge. If you really want to dive into your content strategy and drive massive impact and profit through video for your business, head to infiniteimpactchallenge.com now to join the next challenge.

So many of you probably know that, before I became an entrepreneur, I was actually a dental hygienist. A few of you might even know that I worked in film & television, and interviewed a ton of celebrities like Lady Gaga and George Clooney… Crazy, right? But today I want to focus on the biggest secret that I learned from doing radio commercials.

I remember the first time I ever did a radio commercial, and I was told specifically to “overperform”. They encouraged me to go above and beyond – if it felt like my energy level should be at a 6 or 7, take it up to a 10.

And I was super skeptical about this. I felt like a dancing monkey. How could this possibly come across as authentic or natural? But, of course, it was my job – so I got in the booth and did this over-the-top performance, and felt so silly about it the entire time.

But then, I listened to it back… and it sounded normal.

It was intriguing, it hooked the listener in, and really made a difference in the entertainment value of the commercial.

Then, when I started making YouTube videos in 2016, I remembered that trick. I would assess the mood and intention of the video, and if it felt like my energy should be at a 6, I’d bring it up a few notches to a 9… and watching it back, it made all the difference in the world.

I want to encourage you to utilize the same technique for your videos. If you have people around you while you’re filming, really assess them to make sure they have the right energy level and are building you up – and I promise, you’ll notice a difference in your content quality.

You might feel a little strange and awkward at first, but you know how people say “the camera adds 10 pounds”? I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know that the camera brings down your energy level. So don’t be afraid to compensate for that to come across as really enthusiastic and excited about what you’re talking about.

Even just by doing a small internal assessment like that before I film, and asking myself “What is the mood of this video? What level do I have to be at for this to be effective?” – your audience will pick up on that frequency.

I’m glad I learned this trick back in my radio days; I wouldn’t have believed you if you told me I’d still be using it in my own way YEARS later for my very own business.

I hope this episode gave you something to think about.
